Cyprus has a select geographical position between three continents. Cyprus is an Independent Republic since 1960 and a member of the European Union since 2004. The Cyprus legal system is based on the United Kingdom legal system, which Cyprus inherited from the UK as a result of the British colonial rule of Cyprus through to 1960.
